Haha, who would’ve thought bookshelves have their own story to be told? Ha. Mine does. But no, my bookshelves isn’t exactly ancient. They are custom made actually. So no matter how many times I get asked by people about “where” I bought my shelves, I am always like
So a little less than 2 years ago, I’ve become morbidly addicted to buying books. Which is okay of course if you have bookshelves, right? I don’t.
It was like this. My books are in that tiny little cabinet in my dresser. I don’t want it to be in public’s view, and by public I mean my siblings (as if people could enter my room? hell no) so I keep them where my sisters could not see and eventually borrow them. Haha, I’m such a selfish b*tch I know. Don’t rub it in. But I’ve changed. A bit. I let them borrow books now just as long as we have an oath that should they ever damaged or lost it, I get two as an exchange. Sounds really fair. I wonder why they don’t borrow anymore… Hmmm?
Seeing that I have books cluttered everywhere in my room, my mother decided to help me out make a temporary one while I’m saving for a proper shelf.
So this happened:
Talk about supportive parents right?! But it didn’t last long. You see, soon after this, my mini makeshift shelf cannot handle my hauling addiction anymore. See here that even the top of my dresser had a lot of things going on. I couldn’t even see myself in the mirror. So a few weeks later, I had my Pop’s friend went in and finally started my dream bookshelves! I didn’t want a conventional bookshelf so I designed one myself. 🙂
And tadaaaaaaaaaa! The floating shelves that I am so in love about in my dreams finally came to reality!
It was a roller coaster of emotion of finally having a bookshelf after a long time of deprivation.
It stayed untouched with paint for a couple more months before I finally convinced my bf to help me paint them:
It took days before I could finally sleep in my room again because of the smell! But all worth it in the end!
Soon though, the books feel miserably lonely and in need of companion so I continued my self diagnosed book buying addiction, until it came to this:
This is obviously not enough so I bought a smaller shelf to come along with it.
And you know the rest of it.:)
I don’t know what inspired me to make this post. I just noticed that a lot of you likes my shelves and is probably a little interested about it’s background so that’s it. 🙂 And I hope it will also inspire you to keep working hard in order for you to get your dream shelf! Our books have done so much for us in our everyday lives, it’s only proper that we give them their rightful place so their well rested when we’re not reading them. Hihi.
I hope you enjoyed the little trip down memory lane about my bookshelves!
Till next chat!
Cheers!

You’re shelves are so adorable! That’s so cool how you got to design them yourself. 😀 They definitely look very Alice in Wonderland -ish.

I am absolutely in love with this post. It really goes to show that four boxes are really all it takes! – it’s the creativity, imagination, and personality of the owner that really make a bookshelf a *bookshelf*. I think we should all inspire to be the bookshelf we dream of. #bookishgoals

What I love about this is that my current make shift shelf is exactly the same with your initial “shelf” it’s out of plain sight! Haha! I loved reading this post and I could relate so much. I still don’t have a shelf though, too bad I have my tbr lying around my room. 😐 I still have to pray that my parents agrees to have a shelf. (They don’t support my reading habit that much.)
