Book Review: Once Upon A Zombie Book One: The Color of Fear / AND Giveaway Announcement!

synopsis is reporting strange phenomena in cemeteries in Scotland, Germany, Italy, and America. Only one individual knows what’s happening – and why! This person also knows the one girl who can prevent an unspeakable and imminent catastrophe from taking place. But will she? When Caitlin Fletcher’s mom disappeared (or left?) four years ago, Caitlin began suffering from breathless bouts of anxiety. Her new move to London, with her Dad and her brainiac sister, threatens to lead to more situations that will trigger panic. Now, she’s having anxiety over the possibility of having anxiety! Caitlin’s life takes a turn for the bizarre when she’s tricked into climbing down a “rabbit hole”, landing in a wondrous fairy tale universe – except it’s crawling with savage, starving blood-eyed zombies. But what’s scarier – a blood thirsty zombie, a panic attack….or the painful truth?!

4.5/5 🌟s

First off, I have to let you know guys that this book is more for the middle grade section. But it’s amazingly cute plot line and easy read context is for me, perfect for readers of any age group.

The lead character Caitlin Fletcher suffers from severe anxiety attacks (e.g. forgetting how to breathe – okaay) after her mom disappeared several years ago. Caitlin moved to London with her dad and her incredibly smart, witty, funny younger sister, Natalie. She’s the new kid at school who would most probably get bullied by the popular ones if not for his only (cute guy) friend, Jack.

Caitlin has no social life whatsoever aside from the fact that the articles she writes in are somewhat popular. Jack encourages her to look upon this strange story where sightings has been reported in cemeteries all over the world. Despite the anxiety of going through cemeteries, Caitlin agreed since this is Jack who’s asking her for goodness’s sake and well, she really need to have a strange article to write about. But things suddenly took an awful lot of turn when she went to the cemetery and was grabbed by a zombie to an entirely zombified world.

In this world, Caitlin met the strikingly beautiful but ‘zombified’ royal princesses she came to know only in fairy tales like Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella. There she was faced with the pressure and horror she have not seen even in her wildest (uhm well, she never dreamed wild) dreams.

She was introduced to new fairy tale characters and new exciting and taunting adventures she never thought she could endure. But she was left with no choice but to do it especially if the lives of people she loves are what’a at stake.

There are well thought about twists (which I cannot tell you about, cause yeah, spoiler) in the story that makes the book even more amazing than it already is.

The characters are really likeable and some are really funny like Natalie and Cindy – they are my favorites! The setting happened majority in the zombified fairy tale world where everything is all too familiar (from our childhood books) aside of course from the fact that there is now darkness smeared all over them.

It is not your typical zombie story, that I can assure you. It’s not really creepy (although it can slightly be for really young innocent readers), its funny, some exchanges are hilarious, the writing style (in third person) is amazing – it was such an easy read, the plot twists are interesting, the hint of love story is sooo cute, I cannot help but remember being a high schooler. 😂 Probably the only reason why I rated it 4.5 is because at some point, I felt too old for this but gah I can’t help it. The story is amazing! Definitely recommended to everyone, especially those who are currently in a reading slump – this cute read will definitely get you out of it!

And I have to say this, I was waiting for that one specific character all throughout the story, and she only appeared at the end and my God I want the second book NOW. Please!!!!divider2Giveaway!
